Basseterre, St. Kitts, 2nd February, 2018 (MyVueNews.com) – When beach bar operators on South Friars Beach had their leases terminated, several affected owners met with Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris on the matter.

It is understood that the bar operators have until the end of February to vacate their locations, stemming from the sale of the land that will facilitate the construction of the Ritz Carlton.

In a press conference on 1st February, Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris said he met with operators of ShipWreck, God Father, Discovery and Sunset Bars to discuss the matter.

Harris told the media, “I will not disclose the confidence of the meeting particularly as we must meet with the sellers and prospective buyers of the property in South Friars Bay.”

But he said that what the beach bar operators want from the private owner of the land is facilitation.

“My government has requested and received confirmation that the seller and buyer will avail themselves for a meeting with the government to see how best a facilitation can be provided,” the Prime Minister said.

He noted that the lands on the Southeast Peninsula are private lands, however, government will assist parties in finding a resolution.

“In any dispute that arises there, the government is then unlikely to be a direct party.  We are prepared always to use our good offices to bring reconciliation and amicable resolution to disputes, especially where the ordinary people are up against the mighty and heavily resourced foreign interests.  It was with this intention of availing the good office of the government to assist that the bar operators were invited,” Harris said.
