Independence celebrations giving focus to culture

Basseterre, St. Kitts, Monday, 2nd September, 2019, (MyVueNews.com) – The patriotic spirit of Kittitians and Nevisians will be bolstered as celebrations move into higher gear in coming days, for the 36th Annual Anniversary of independence.

This year, one of the spotlights will be shining brightly on culture.

Event organizers say that a special concert has been planned for this weekend and will pay tribute to three cultural icons, namely Kenrick Georges, King Arrow and Calypso Reggie, all of whom are now deceased but left their indelible marks on the nation’s cultural art form.

To this end, a presentation dubbed, “Independence Fiesta” has been slated to take place in the heart of Basseterre, on Bank Street, on Friday, 6th September, starting at 7:00pm

The concert, which will have no charge to the public will feature some of the country’s premier artists, in dance, poetry, fashion, performing arts and music.

The theme under which the independence celebrations are being held is, “Unify, Transform, Enrich: Uplifting Communities for Independence 36.”

Citizens are being encouraged to attend and support the concert being organized by the Department of Culture.
