One in custody after road fatality in Nevis

Basseterre, St. Kitts, Wednesday, 6th February, 2019, ( – Police in Nevis are today continuing their investigations to better understand the circumstances that led to the death of one man during a road accident on Tuesday, 5th February.

Police have confirmed that local resident, Stuart James David, said to be of New River, Nevis, died as a result of injuries he sustained after a collision between his motorcycle and a pick-up.

The incident is reported to have occurred sometime around 3:00 pm on Tuesday, in the district of Chicken Stone. Police say that one man has been taken into custody and is providing assistance with the investigation. They however, did not release the name of that person.

Police have revealed that the motor bike, P922, was travelling to Charlestown, while the pickup, P2948, driven by its owner, Orville Bartlette of Cole Hill, Nevis, was headed in the opposite direction.

David, according to police was pronounced dead on the scene.

However, officials at the main Traffic Department of the Police in Basseterre, complained on radio this morning, while being interviewed, that his office was not officially informed of the incident.

The senior officer, who appeared on local radio for a weekly scheduled talk program on traffic matters, openly expressed his displeasure over the fact, as he claimed, that no official information had been passed on to his department.

He said he only became aware of the matter through news reports.
