World Teachers Day in St. Kitts

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 5th October, 2018 (MyVueNews.com) – Minister of Education in St. Kitts & Nevis, Shawn Richards has declared that “Teachers truly are the makers of all professionals.”
The minister, who is also the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, added that they are the patriarchs of all professions. He was at the time delivering remarks to celebrate World Teachers Day, on Friday, 5th October, 2018.

He told his audience that he was honoured and filled with pride in celebrating the teachers of St. Kitts & Nevis, under the global theme of “The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher.”

This year, according to UNESCO, World teachers Day also marks 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), that recognizes education as a fundamental right and establishes an entitlement to free compulsory education.

The minister said that this ensures inclusive and equitable access to education for all children.
He indicated that here in St. Kitts & Nevis, we have long recognized and legislated for free compulsory education to the end of secondary level, and will continue to support post-education at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College and the Nevis Sixth Form.

Throughout the world, it is estimated that over 264 million children and youth still not receiving an education, especially amongst the more vulnerable groups of society.
Richards said that he continues to encourage all parents, students and citizens and corporate partners to find tangible ways to salute and show appreciation to all teachers.
