The call was issued last week by the newly appointed chairperson, Ms. Shannon Hawley, during a press briefing at Warner Park.
Hawley said such support from the public is needed if her committee is to succeed in expanding and enhancing the carnival product.
The Chairperson has outlined that the next edition of carnival will be held across 40 days and is hailed as carnival 40:40.
She said that her committee cannot by itself organize and maintain national carnival without the involvement of an adequate number of volunteers.
Ms. Hawley said “We need you to come out, participate and contribute in whatever way you can because Carnival is not just the committee it is the whole country.”
Minister of Carnival, Ms. Marcella Liburd, who also spoke at the press briefing, also urged the public for their support of carnival and she also thanked those who supported in the past and asked those who participate to do so responsibly.
Chairwoman Hawley also extended an invitation for the local private sector to demonstrate their tangible support for the carnival by way of sponsorship for one of the many activities being organized for the 40th Anniversary.
Interested individuals who wish to serve as a volunteer can register before or by the 23rd September deadline. The carnival secretariat can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org or by visiting the offices on Victoria Road.
