A night of catches galore, Barbados Tridents whips St. Lucia Zouks

It was a night of catches for the Tridents and the Zouk’s.  Zouk’s captain, Darren Sammy was caught by Hope for 15; Fletcher was caught by Pollard for 52; Davids was caught by Carter for 8; and Edwards was caught by Emrit for 9.

The Tridents had its fair share of dismissals by catches: Smith was caught by McCullum for 22; Munaweera was caught by Pietersen for 26; Peterson was caught by Roach for 1; Malik was caught by Sammy for 51; and Hope was caught by Lesporis for 10.

And if catches were not enough, there were a number of run-outs too: From the Tridents, Mendis was run out for 8 and Pollard for 5, and from the Zouks, Pietersen was run out for 1.

At the end of the game, Sammy expressed dissatisfaction but said that he had confidence in his team to do better.

“It’s quite disappointing. I thought half way through we restricted them to a gettable total but we just kept losing wickets. We probably had one good partnership with Ross Taylor and Fletcher…from that we just kept losing wickets in clusters and on a difficult wicket once we let the rate go to twelve plus and over it becomes two boundaries an over,” Sammy said. “We just didn’t bat well. We didn’t take on the chase properly. Most of our guys got caught and we just didn’t execute properly. I think it was a gettable chase but we just didn’t respond well under pressure. However, I won’t let his game dampen our spirits”.

Man of the match, Shoaib Malik of the Tridents said that “it was a great feeling to have won this game and on top of that I feel great to have scored runs”.

“We were thinking that this was going to be a very crucial game because both teams are like first and second on the table. We won this game and we are quite confident,” said Malik, 33, who is from Pakistan and who once held the Pakistan captaincy.

To date in the 2015 CPL T20, the Barbados Tridents is leading with 8 points, the St. Lucia Zouks with 5 points, the Jamaica Tallawahs with 4 points, the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots with 2 points. The Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel with 1 point and the Guyana Amazon Warriors with 0 point.
