The teams meet tonight at 6:00 p.m., at the Beausejour Cricket Ground in Gros Islet, St. Lucia. For both teams, it is important to win – the St. Lucia Zouks, it is because their first match against the T&T Red Steel was rained out, and for the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, it is the team’s debut match since its formation and perhaps the chance to prove a point.
The hype is thick with the Zouk’s captain Darren Sammy placing a lot of weight on his bowlers, particularly the fast bowlers, using a cricket pitch that Sammy believes is now the fastest in the Caribbean. According to Sammy, both bowlers and batsmen are bringing the “X-Factor” to the 2015 competition, having exited the competition early in the first two editions of the CPL.
But Captain Marlon Samuel said the team is focused and has good all-round strengths. In the team are players such as Pakistan’s legend Shahid Afridi, New Zealand’s opening batsman Martin Guptill and Pakistan all-rounder Sohail Tanvir, not to forget the informed and productive skipper himself.
Meanwhile, fast forward to St. Kitts where final preparations are being made at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium for the hosting of multiple matches. The grounds are ready and the energy is building.
It’s the talk of the town, really, even more than its twinned event, the St. Kitts Music Festival.
