MiyVue.com understands that the high level meeting between the principals associated with the Marriott Hotel and the Ministry of Agriculture took place on Friday, 14th January, 2011. Dr Harris who was accompanied by Mr. Ashton Stanley, Director of Agriculture, held talks with Mr. Lu Golasso, CEO of the Zen Group and the Royal St Kitts Hotel, Mr Van der Vaart, General Manager of the St Kitts Marriott and Ambassador Delano Bart, QC, regarding ways in which the Marriott Hotel could provide greater direct support to farmers in St Kitts and Nevis.
Dr Harris said that as the single largest hotel facility on the island, Marriott can provide a significant market for our agriculture produce. Commenting on the high level meeting, Minister Harris said, “The meeting was to explore how we can get more of our agriculture produce consumed at the Marriott Hotel. We have put forward our position. We have heard their perspectives. We now have to organize follow up meetings to see how we can forge ahead on a more realistic basis.
“It cannot be beyond the capacity of all of us to find an arrangement that gets our carambola, pumpkin, potatoes, our juices, jams and jellies, etc in Marriott’s kitchen and on its tables and so, we will continue to work and be hopeful” said the Minister.
