ALLEN MISSES CENTURY BUT UNDER-19S WIN

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Windies Under-19 innings was rocked by the Afghan opening bowlers as the regional side were reduced to 2-1 with both opening batsmen gone without scoring.

Triston Coleman then tried to stem the flow of wickets by batting patiently to restore the innings. He hit 37 runs from 77 balls in a knock that included three fours. However, the young Windies kept losing wickets.

It was the effort of Fabian Allen, hitting 92 runs from just 94 balls that helped the Windies Under-19s get back into the game. Allen’s knock contained eight boundaries and four sixes.

He had some good support from skipper Ramaal Lewis who struck 27 runs. The Windies Under-19s were bowled out for 215 inside their 50 overs. Fareed Ahmad and Mohammad Mujtaba both took three wickets each for Afghanistan Under-19.

The Afghans got their chase going with a series of short partnerships but lost wickets along the way. It was a gutsy half-century from Shahidullah Kamal that held the innings and the early part of their chase together.

Kamal score 51 runs from 61 balls, stroking five fours and two sixes. Hashmatullah Shaidi also struck a half-century for his team and ended unbeaten but his effort wasn’t enough.

Shaidi scored 52 runs from 92 balls, hitting four fours during his stay at the crease. But the Windies Under-19 bowlers managed to pull the match back through a series of tight overs and quick wickets.

Ray Jordan ended with 3-44 while Ramaal Lewis took 2-38 as the Windies Under-19s won by 9 runs.
