This was the message coming out of Saturday’s (27th August, 2011), formal presentation of TDC bursaries to eight (8) nationals, in a ceremony held at the Fort Street Headquarters of the company, as part of the annual Warren Tyson Memorial Scholarship Program,.
The TDC Group of Companies, to help further assist in the development and growth of young persons, has for the past 30 years, identified and assisted over 200 deserving citizens, in the program that was named in honour of the founding chairman of TDC, the late Mr. Warren Tyson.
The 2011 winners are Tian’J Williams, Melicia Clarke, Bonielle Estridge, Denaldo Huggins, Kwame Challenger, Xyaniese Comrie, Telston Murraine and Jennica Versailles.
The theme for this year’s scholarship grant is, ‘Molding Young Minds for the future (30 years of training, development and commitment”.
Upon arrival to the podium, Company Chairman, Mr. Michael Morton glanced at the students and smiled, saying “I am so happy to be here, this is one of my favourite days of the year”
“Over the 30 years of the Warrant Tyson scholarship, TDC invested $750,000 into this program, to invest in the youths. I am proud of all the scholars who went through the program, and happy that they are contributing to their communities and contributing to the economic development of their federation” said the Chairman.
These have included past scholars such as Niah Mills, Merlese Warner, Dale Phipps, Terrance Drew, Ron Carty, Rolencia Kelly, Jermul Huggins and the 2008 State Scholar Adriel Browne, along with many, many, more.
Mr. Morton said that part of the solution to the many problems that plague our society, is to invest in the youth. He promised TDC will ensure that they devote the energy, time and resources, and the requisite training, so they can go out and evangelize amongst their peers, and be the engine for change, to be examples to others and show them wrong from right.
TDC is devoted to save young people, to regain and take control of young people, that their life again may become valuable, continued the TDC boss.
TDC will only and always adopt the values that will make young people wholesome and lead us to progress and happiness, he said.
