The event which was hosted by C&C Trading Ltd is designed to enhance the skills of bartenders in St Kitts and Nevis. It was held on Friday 29th July, 2011 at the Circus Bar and Grill in Basseterre.
Six of the federation’s top bartenders, three males and three females, battled for supremacy sometime after 4:00 pm.
According to the spokesperson for the competition, the event was held to promote the awareness of the Angostura products in the federation, highlighting that these products can be used in mixing their beverages and are available on the islands.
The competition saw participating bartenders presenting two (2) cocktails to the judges. They first prepared a cocktail of their choice in the Open Category. Then, bartenders were asked to make use of Angostura rums in the second category; the Rum Cocktail.
It was Kendie Browne of Four Seasons Hotel in Nevis, whose cocktails which he named Citrus Delight in the Open Category and Mango Fusion a drink mixed with the Angostura Rums in Rum Cocktail Division won over the Judges and seeing Browne crowned the winner of the 2011 Angostura Limited Mix Master.
The judges scored the cocktails on Appearance, Aroma, Taste and Presentation Skills.
“The Competitors welcomed the opportunity and felt that it should be held annually. They also felt that the contest gave them a chance to display their various skills and talents.” cited one Organiser
In the first runner spot was Kremour Maloney, an Independent Entrant, with cocktails- Jumbi Fever, in the Open Category, and Angostura Fusion in the Rum Cocktail category; leaving Steve Hobson of the Oualie Beach Hotel to capture the second runner spot with his mixes Surf Style in the first category and Angostura Splash Martini in the second.
Kendi Browne now moves on to the Regional Mix Masters Competition to be held in Jamaica, and if successful in mixing out his fellow competitors, he would stir on to the 2012 Global Angostura Mix Master Bartender Competition which be held in Trinidad and Tobago.
