Annual World Aids Day March Held

The march which is an annual event on the Ministry’s calendar started on Cayon Street in the Greenland’s area and made its way into the heart of Basseterre.

It then took a right on to Church Street then a left onto Liverpool Row then another left on Fort Street. After leaving Fort Street it took a right on Cayon Street and then another right on West Square Street. The Parade then turned across the Bay Road towards the old treasury building where it climaxed.

While Parading through the streets of Basseterre the march attracted attention from employees of local businesses and government institutions all trying to get a glimpse of the participants..

An official from the Ministry of Health commended all who participated in the  celebration and thanked  the groups for making the event possible.

“This year’s World AIDS Day is about Zero AIDS Related Deaths, Zero New Infections and Zero Discrimination. This will not happen and millions of people will die unnecessarily unless more communities come together to do the right thing.  We are encouraging everyone to get tested, get educated, get treated and get involved,” the Minister of Health Marcela Liburd said.

World Aids Day is observed on 1st December annually.
