Hanchell, who was elected by the voters of South Caicos, is being charged with “conspiracy to defraud the government and receive bribes”. Reportedly, these charges stem from the now failed Salt Cay development known as Devco. The developer, a Czech Republic group, was reported to have provided former premier Michael Misick and Hanchell with unlimited credit via high end American Express credit cards connected with a Czech bank.
Also headed for trial in the Supreme Court is attorney Chalmers “Chal” Misick, brother of Michael Misick. The charges against him appear to involve a number of tainted prospective developments, where funds were alleged to have been systematically sidetracked to members and associates of the former government.
Another local attorney, Melbourne Wilson, faces allegations of misconduct in handling almost $2 million in the proceeds of a land flip for the benefit of yet another former minister Jeffrey Hall, who was elected to three terms by the voters of Middle Caicos.
