According to one of the organizers, Sister Marcia Jeffers, who was leader of the ABC Pomp Pomp section, the theme used for this year’s bible school was, “Guard Your Integrity”.
Jeffers said that this was the 45th year of the Vacation Bible School which was started in 1966, by the late founder of the Baptist movement in St. Kitts & Nevis, Dr. William Connor.
The one week summer camp started on Monday, 18th July, 2011, culminating on Friday, 22nd July. This year, similar to previous years, the participating children were divided into various age groups: 3 years up to 5, 6-8, 9-11 12 and over.
“We realize that a lot of programs that are going on now, are geared towards sport, so the VBS over the years has tended to concentrate on the teaching of the gospel and preaching God’s word because we believe that people can only change if God changes them and we have to change the heart of man before we change anything else. Sports are good and performing arts is good but the word of God is the ultimate reason why we host the VBS, “explained Ms. Jeffers.
In addition to the pastor and officers of the Antioch Baptist Church, this year, we have a 52 member delegation from Texas, who have come for the weekend to do a fine arts festival and they have been doing workshops with hand bells, ballet, praise dance, musical instruments and a children’s chorus.
The music workshops and the festival of performing arts culminated on Sunday, 24th July, at Government House, where all the groups perform in a concert.
