During his weekly radio programme, “Ask the PM on ”Tuesday 18th January 2011 , Dr. Douglas informed that while Commissioner of Police Austin Williams is still on active duty, the process of seeking for a successor has begun as Williams will soon go into retirement.
“The post of Commissioner of Police is not vacant. The Commissioner of Police is Commissioner Austin Williams who has been serving in this capacity for about three years and he continues to hold that post. Austin is at the point of completing his stint of service and then will go into retirement. Once he goes into retirement the post become vacant and the process for filling that post when it becomes vacant has already started,” the Prime Minister disclosed
He said that for the few months, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Williams will continue to perform his duties as commissioner.
“He is beyond the retirement age and so he has been appropriately informed that we would want at the end of this stint of service we would want to have the opportunity for a new commissioner,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
