Barbados Cops Charged with Raping Jamaican Woman

The Jamaica Observer reported that they have been identified as Constable Jonathan Barrow, 32, and a Woman Constable, 25-year-old Melanie Denny.

Barrow is charged with serious indecency while Denny is accused of aiding and abetting Barrow to commit an act of serious indecency on the woman.

Both were charged on Thursday (7th April) evening and appeared in District A Magistrate’s Court on the following day. They are expected to reappear in court on 1st September. Both were granted bail in the sum of B$5,000.

The complainant in the matter said Denny let two policemen inside the cell she occupied at the Central Police Station in Bridgetown after she was held with marijuana in her luggage at the Grantley Adams International Airport in late February.

She said Barrow forced her to perform oral sex on him while she claims the other male officer, who has not yet been identified, raped her.

Barrow and Denny were pointed out during separate identification parades last week.

The complainant is currently serving a 15-month sentence.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Jamaican woman who was allegedly abused by a female immigration officer has been invited by the Barbados Foreign Affairs Minister to visit Barbados to participate in an identification parade to identify the perpetrator.
