Barbados-based Pine Hill Dairy has prepared two containers to ship products to Trinidad and Tobago.

This comes exactly one month after it was reported the Barbadian company was experiencing difficulty getting its products into Trinidad.

“A bright day for Pine Hill Dairy!” said Richard Cozier, CEO and managing director of Banks Holdings Ltd, which operates Pine Hill Dairy, the Barbados press reported.

Two containers of two per cent one-litre ultra-pasteurised TGA milk and whole one-litre ultra-pasteurised milk were prepared for shipment. The milk products should be on store shelves in T&T in about one week, the Barbados Advocate reported. The value of the products in the two containers was given as US$56,000, Cozier said.

Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association president Dominic Hadeed yesterday welcomed news of the shipments, saying local producers welcomed competition.

He said, in a phone interview, that local manufacturers exported a number of products to other Caribbean territories and had no problems with exporters from other islands introducing their goods to this country.

The TTMA was instrumental in helping the Barbadian manufacturer resolve import/export issues with local authorities to allow its goods to be brought to Trinidad and Tobago, he added.

The business group has also established a help desk to facilitate importers from Jamaica, Hadeed added.

On June 21, Banks Holdings’ Cozier had said in Barbados that BHL had run into a roadblock in accessing the Trinidad market, as the local authorities indicated that several BHL brands had what was described as non-compliant labelling.
