In response to a reporter’s question Prime Minister Douglas said, “I will never make a Cabinet Report public and besides the Social Security board has already made its own report.”
Dr. Douglas further added, “I have already brought to the public what the Cabinet’s position was accepted the report we received and we are satisfied as a Cabinet that the Social Security Fund is very sound and we don’t think there is any threat to its soundness. We think the project is a very good project which does very good things for social Security and for you and me who are the investors.”
“For the government and the country on a whole it will assist in the stimulation of the economy,” Douglas said.
He also went on to say that from his end he doesn’t see a need for a public enquiry into the matter but if they are others who feel it should have a public enquiry go on. He also highlighted that the press has brought out all that there is on the project because there has been so much transparency and openness.
Dr. Douglas explained that there had been so much openness on the matter, as Press releases were circulated, and discussions were held with the Minister and himself.
“…. there is nothing in my opinion that is being hidden” said Douglas.
The Prime Minister also commended the Social Security Director, whom he said has done a public service by bringing to the attention to the public the concerns of members of the boardroom.
