A release from the National Carnival Committee confirms that the names of the finalists were revealed by Chairman Clement ‘Monarch’ O’garro at Beaumont Park on Sunday 28th November.
According to the release, O’garro stated that even though the committee had originally agreed to 12 finalists, the standard of material submitted made it possible to name an additional finalist along with two alternates.
Competing for the top cash prize of $10,000.00 would be De Provoker, Ras Kelly, X-Man, Mr World, Anastasia, Shakel and Fire, Konris, Shakki Star Fire, Rico Righteous and Melbo, Hotrod, C-Money and Rucas, Soca Samuel, and Eazi, The list represent national artists based in St Kitts, Nevis, and London.
The alternates are Queen Kibie and T-Bone. In the event any of the named finalists are unable to perform, they would be replaced by the two in the order named.
Each artist would sing one song between 125 and 165 beats per minute which has already been determined based on CD submissions.
The rules this year permit solo acts, duos, or groups to enter the revived Soca Monarch. The judging criteria are 40 points for performance, 20 for lyrics, 20 points for melody, 10 for creativity, and 10 for crowd response.
Additionally, regional soca sensation Patch out of Trinindad, would headline the show with his mega hit, “Pipe”.
