Bowlers give T&T good chance of victory

After losing their last four wickets for just eight runs in the morning session to crash to 170 all out in reply to Jamaica’s first innings of 246, the T&T bowlers came back strongly and reduced the home team to 26 for five, before they eventually folded for 102 – setting the Red Force a winning target of 179 runs.

At the close, T&T were 54 for two, having lost debutant Jeremy Solozano (4) and Lendl Simmons (31). Persistent rain halted play an hour into the final session and the players did not return.

Today, play will get off half an hour earlier to make up for lost time weather permitting and T&T will be looking to chase down a further 125 runs to claim the win and move on to Barbados for the finals.

Yesterday, it was newcomer Marlon Richards take lead role, as he quickly removed three top order batsmen and this crippled Jamaica’s innings. Medium pacer Rayad Emrit then took up where Richards left out and took three midde order scalps to ensure that there was no repeat of a fight-back which occurred in the first innings.

Carlton Baugh who got 88 not out in the first innings was the top scorer again for the home team in getting 38 not out. The Emrit ended with 3/25, while Richards took 3/21.

JAMAICA 246 all out (Carlton Baugh 88 not out, Sheldon Cotterell 44, Tamar Lambert 38, Nikita Miller 21; Marlon Richards 5-46, Imran Khan 2-53) and 102 (Carlton Baugh Jr 38 not out; Marlon Richards 3-21, Rayad Emrit 3-25)

T&T 170 (Lendl Simmons 79, Yannick Cariah 26; Nikita Miller 5-41, Sheldon Cotterell 2-34) and 54 for two (Lendl Simmons 31; David Bernard Jr 2-8)
