On Friday, 21st December, a police statement confirmed that Delroy Delashly of Water Works, Cayon was formally charged for the offence of Murder of Amanda “Mira” Archibald which was committed on 13th December 2012.
The midnight shooting was said to have left residents of Cayon in shock, especially given that it occurred while the child of both the victim and the accused was nearby.
Archibald, who was a well-known vendor, is believed to have lived at White’s Mountain in Upper Cayon with her boyfriend-Delroy.
Residents have however claimed that the couple was not on the best of terms in recent times and they have wondered if this may have been a case where the relationship soured so badly, ending in the alleged homicide.
Archibald’s death was the 16th for the year in St. Kitts and Nevis and was always suspected by police to be driven by a domestic dispute gone radically wrong.
Less than 24 hours after Archibald’s killing, the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis recorded another homicide, (on Friday 14th December), this time the shooting death of a local businessman, who was returning home from his retail store on fort Street, in Basseterre.
