Bravo! Red Steel sends Tallawahs packing

The rest of Gayle’s team has depended too heavily on him to win matches, so much so that when he is cold, his team is almost rendered impotent. Apart from Gayle, Chadwick Walton and Santokie have performed well, while Lynn and Jayawardene haven’t played any cricket of note in this year’s series. Superman Andre Russell himself has not been super.

It was a very disappointing finish for the Tallawahs who has now to settle for fourth place. The Red Steel who started out shakily has now gathered momentum, whipping the Tallawahs by 27 runs and sending it packing with 125 for 10 wickets off 19.3 overs. The Red Steel amassed 152 for the loss of 6 wickets, making it a contender for the finals, if it wins against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on July 25 at Queen’s Park Oval.

Red-SteelThe Tallawahs’ first four batsmen were the ones to make the runs. When the fifth wicket was taken, that of Russell, it all became a slippery slope. Gayle managed to make 30 runs off 21 balls before he was caught and bowled by Bothe; Jayawardene amassed 16, Walton 31 and Blackwood 23. After Blackwood, the wickets started falling like flies when seven wickets were annihilated for 28 runs. The best partnerships were between Jayawardene and Gayle, 38 runs; Jayawardene and Walton, 28 runs; and Blackwood and Walton, 31 runs.

The Bravo brothers starred the show. Captain of the Red Steel, Dwayne Bravo, was brilliant in his bowling, taking five wickets for 23 runs while his brother Darren Bravo made 86 runs not out off 63 balls, hitting six 6’s and four 4’s as part of the package. He was declared man of the match. Jason Mohammed made 28 runs off 25 balls. The rest of the batsmen put together were only able to accumulate 28 runs, with Captain Darren Bravo only making five before he was caught by Chris Lynn.

To date, the scorecard reads: Barbados Tridents, 12 points; Guyana Amazon Warriors, 11 points; Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, 11 points; Jamaica Tallawahs, 9 points; St. Lucia Zouks, 9 points; and St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, 8 points.
