Sergeant Calvin Amory of the Traffic Department indicated on Monday, (20th August) that they have observed that a high percentage of the bus drivers are complying with the rules, but a few are still engaging in activities that should not be encouraged.
At the same time however, the police have been fielding reports of individuals parking their private vehicles in the spaces reserved for the bus stops.
Amory warned that this is an illegal practice that should be immediately discontinued.
The traffic official also pointed out that some bus drivers have been spending an extended period of time in the stops, awaiting passengers, while other operators have been switching sides to go to the different bus stops. This too said Amory is not allowed and should be discontinued.
The bus stop rules came into effect on 1st August 2012 in the Basseterre area of St. Kitts with the Traffic Department looking to expand the protocol island-wide, in the near future.
