Twelve young and talented kaisonians took to the state on the evening of 27th December 2010 to belt out their renditions in effort to seal a top spot in the competition.
Most of the contestants’ renditions focussed on issues affecting the St. Kitts Nevis society, others were less serious and highlighted aspects of our national carnival and even the recently-implemented Value Added Tax (VAT).
First on stage was Lady Niah of the Dr. Williams Connor Primary School who performed “It is time we take our country back”. She was followed by Serena of the Charles E. Mills Secondary School who performed “Youths of Today”.
Third was Mighty Saani with “Where do we go from here” who was followed by Singing Shadie with “Dolly House” after which came King Scribbles with “A cry from the ghetto”.
The other performers were: in 6th position, Lady Ice with “What kind of world we living in”, Mighty Dan with “VAT”, Lady Kali with “Monkey See, Monkey Do”, the Mighty Big One with “Carnival Time”, the Mighty Survivor singing “VAT Jam”, the Mighty Leo with “Infected With Rage” and Mighty Prophet who sang “Don’t wash your mouth”
While the audience may have been torn about who the winner was because of the high level of competition which was displayed on the Sugar Mill stage, the judges had made their decision named the Mighty Leo as the King, with Lady Kali capturing the 1st runner-up position and Singing Shadie and the Mighty Saani bagging the 2nd and 3rd runner-up positions respectively.
The 2009/2010 Junior Calypso Monarch competition was won by Miss Independent who could not defend her crown this year as she has already attained the age which allows her to participate in senior competitions.
