The tent organizers could not have asked for a better start which saw approximately 1,500 -2,000 fans turning out in their numbers to support their favourite calypsonians. It was a joint appearance of the Legends and Proud Sounds Calypso Tents, held at a local restaurant in the trendy tourist district of Port Zante.
Kicking off just before 7:00pm, the event ran until just after midnight, following crowd pleasing performances from about 30 calypsonians, including favourites, Phonsie, Lala, Hot Rod, Little Willy, Big Lice, Pungwa, Anastasia, Socrates.
However, the night was dominated by a sensational and entertaining performance by Little Willy who pranced around the stage with his usual, or perhaps, unusual stage antics, much to the delight of the audience.
It was also a night for new comers Lady Solution and junior contender-Scribbles, who were making their maiden appearances on the Tent circuit. Scribbles is also the reigning Culturama Junior Calypso King.
Long time Tent organizers, Sylvester “Socrates” Hodge and Wingrove Hicks Williams were honoured by the National Carnival Committee, for their outstanding service to the art form of calypso and the sterling contributions they have made in the organization of the Tents, for many years.
The next appearance for the Proud Sounds will be on Tuesday 8th November at the Green Valley Pub, while the Legends are expected to appear on Wednesday night 9th November, at De House Nitery, in Soho.
