A press release informs that Dr. Harris is officiating the activities which are part of a week of activities being held over the period 2nd-6th May, 2011.
The organisation was established in 1975 by 12 CARICOM member states, with St Kitts and Nevis being a founding member.
In Trinidad, Dr. Harris joins CARDI’s Executive Director, Dr. Arlington Chesney and former IICA Director General, Dr Chelston Brathwaite in radio/television interviews discussing the regional agriculture sector.
Dr Harris will also be part of an eminent audience speaking at the opening of the 2011 CARDI public lecture series. The topic is “Food and Nutrition Security as the Basis of a New Development Model”. The featured presenter will be Dr. Chelston Brathwaite, Interim Director of the School of Agriculture.
Senior Minister Harris was recently elected by CARICOM Ministers of Agriculture to Chair the Board of Governors of CARDI. Dr Harris will engage in discussions regarding CARDI’s midterm programme 2011 to 2013 with CARDI’s Board of Directors.
Minister Harris said that he was honoured by the opportunity to be of regional service and “to assist where I can in ensuring that our policy imperatives will bring desirable results in the agriculture sector”.
