Caribbean officials to discuss economic growth and development through entrepreneurship

EPIC is a Canadian funded program affiliated to the World Bank Group and administered through its InfoDev program. The meeting will be held under the theme, ‘Promoting Entrepreneurship in the Caribbean: Enhancing Growth, Ensuring Sustainability and Exploiting opportunities’.

The InfoDev communications stated, “For the past four years, the World Bank Group, supported by the Government of Canada, has been actively working on promoting high growth sustainable enterprises in vital sectors across the Caribbean through infoDev’s Entrepreneurship Program in the Caribbean (EPIC).”

The July 15 meeting will be held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and will feature speakers such as Alessandro Legrottaglie, the senior country officer of the World Bank’s Caribbean Country Management Unit, and Ganesh Rasagam, practice manager Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the World Bank.

Among several presentations are two panel discussions on the ‘Entrepreneurial Experience in the Caribbean’ and another on ‘Strengthening Entrepreneurship in the Caribbean. According to InfoDev information, the discussions will attempt to “explore ways in which EPIC can further promote competition, sustainable growth and job creation within key growth areas”.

The information indicated, also, that the discussions will be led by prominent persons in the region including experts from Jamaica, representatives from the Government of Belize, as well as experts from St. Kitts and Nevis.
