Caribbean Prime Ministers must govern for all, says Commonwealth official

Nwasike was speaking during an interview with Vincentian journalist Glenford Prescott.

She was in St Vincent as a facilitator at a two-day governance and development retreat for opposition Members of Parliament.

Nwasike also said that the Caribbean needs leadership at all levels and an enabling environment that encourages creative solutions to the region’s problems.

The workshop discussed governance, integrity and ethics, development and how it occurs, and the role of shadow ministers.

Meanwhile, the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP), in a press release, praised the workshop saying it “gave much food for thought to those who attended”.

“The Opposition’s contributions were spirited, articulate and well received,” the NDP said.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to table issues of importance to governance in our country in this forum. Information was shared and proposals made. We believe that this will go a long way in ensuring that Vincentian concerns about transparency and integrity in government will be addressed,” the statement quoted opposition leader Arnhim Eustace as saying.
