CARICOM Hosting Education for Employment Workshop in St. Kitts

Mr. Nigel Carty, Minister of Education and Information will open the workshop with a keynote address focusing on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in St. Kitts and Nevis. 

Fitzroy Wilkin, the Principle TVET Officer based at the Ministry of Education revealed to the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service that falling in line with C-EFE, each of the 12 participating CARICOM member states had been instructed to propose its priority training requirements.  As such, in St. Kitts and Nevis a National Committee had been established for that purpose.  Mr. Wilkin informed that the committee is presently in the preparation of the proposal phase.   The other participating member-states are Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname as well as Trinidad and Tobago.

The C-EFE is a $20 million programme sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and implemented by the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC).  It is designed to contribute to an increased competitive, productive and gender-equitable workforce in the CARICOM region by supporting the development of enhanced, demand-driven TVET and workforce certification systems.  The programme further identifies key results and the interactive two-day workshop will help to refine the target results and identify key sources of data through input from stakeholders.

The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) has been identified as one of the local Caribbean colleges that will partner in the C-EFE programme.  The CFBC will be included in the second round of partnerships which is scheduled to be launched in February 2013.
