CARIFTA Games LOC makes urgent call for volunteers

In a recent interview with the media, Keithley Phillip, the chief administration officer at the LOC, indicated that they are in need of volunteers for the three-day competition.

He noted that even though all logistical works are in place for the games, it is the volunteers who will ensure that the games are a success.

“Volunteers are critical to us. Without the volunteers, we cannot effectively run or produce the CARIFTA games,” Phillip said.

“So, we are right now seeking volunteers. Those persons who would have taken part in the CPL. Persons who would have taken part in Music Festival. Or even those persons who would have taken part in CARIFTA (2008) and some of the one-day cricket games are needed,” he added.

According to the LOC head, individuals who are interested in lending their service but do not have the requisite experience in such field can still volunteer their time, because they will be trained on how to carry the task mandated.

The organizing committee is looking to attract in excess of 100 athletes for the biggest junior track and field event in the Caribbean region.

“All persons have to do is fill out a form and indicate what aspect they would like to serve as, and we would be more than happy to welcome them,” Phillip said.

Currently, 25 of the 27 nations have confirmed their participation for the April 4-6 event.

The LOC is catering for some 800 travelling supporters, athletes and coaching staff for the 2015 edition of the games, which would be held at the Silver Jubilee Stadium in Bird Rock.
