Carnival 2010/2011 kicks off this weekend

 

The parade would feature winners from last year’s carnival including reigning Calypso Monarch, King Socrates , National Carnival Queen, Sudeakka Francis, Singing Jackie, Female Calypso monarch, Junior Calypso Queen, Best of the Rest winner, Caribbean Talented Teen winner, and Roadmarch champs Grandmasters. The winners would be joined by King Astro, reigning Culturama Calypso King and Verna Grant, the reigning Culturama Queen. 

Also included in the festivities would be a folklore section, an awareness section, the community Drum Core, Washington Archibald Cheerleaders, and a sneak peak at this year’s J’Ouvert and Grand Parade costumes by Red devils, Phunn Vibes, Xpress Events, Inferno, and Phunmakers. 

The Parade ends at Bank Street with the official launch ceremony featuring remarks from Carnival chairman, Clement Ogarro, and Minister responsible for carnival, Honorable Marcella Liburd. The six charming contestants for the National Carnival Queen Pageant and the eight Talented Teen contestants would also be introduced.

The festivities would be come to a GRAND climax with the release of the carnival slogan and program for 2010/2011. Live performances would be staged by King Socrates, Singing Jackie, and Masud Sadiki. The night’s event would be concluded with a pre-carnival jam session by Kolision Band.
