Carnival Day Parade on Monday 2nd January

This year, because New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday, the decision, which is the norm, was taken to delay the Grand Carnival Parade until Monday, in recognition of the Christian celebrations that are observed by churches throughout the country.

Among the troupes expected to be on show are Phunn Makers, Fusion Fantasy and Banker Mas Camp. The usual Folklore groups are also planning to take to the streets to participate in the parade.

The spotlight however, will be on the music being played by the bands and H-FIs, as Monday is the last day of judging for the annual Road March title.

Strong contenders include Honesty with his popular “Sing Stupidness”, Fantastic Tunda, with “Bite & Roll”, but from all reports, it is the Grand Masters that is already in the lead, from J’ouvert morning…though much competition is expected from the Small Axe Band and the Nu Vybes.

Some 20 songs were registered for the Road March, according to carnival officials.

The judging for the troupes on parade will also take place on Monday, as well as the King and Queen of the Bands.

With the parade taking place on 2nd January, it means the Last Lap will take place on Tuesday the 3rd…The final day of the 40:40 Sugar Mas.
