Central, Prince’s and Delisle Streets, Made One-way

i. On Central Street, between Fort Street and Church Street, traffic will flow westwards only; that is, towards Development Bank.

ii. On Prince’s Street, traffic will flow eastwards only; that is from Church Street towards Fort Street.

iii. On Delisle Street, traffic will flow southwards only, that is from Prince’s Street to Liverpool Row.

The effect of changes one and two, is that traffic flowing north, along Fort Street, would have the option of travelling either left or right onto Central Street. He said this would assist in reducing the congestion which normally occurs at the top of Fort Street, especially during peak hours.

In an effort to assist the public in complying with the new traffic arrangements, the Traffic Department has indicated that the necessary signage will be erected in the appropriate areas.

The press release clearly indicates that the abovementioned restrictions are only effective during the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Mondays – Saturdays.

Sometime last months, the Traffic Department restricted the flow of traffic on Central Street, one of Basseterre’s main thoroughfares, from two-way traffic, to one-way traffic. After that change was made, traffic was allowed to flow only westward along the stretch of that road between Church and West Independence Square Streets.

With this upcoming change however, motorists must be careful to note that they will not be allowed turn left into Central Street from Church Street.

All motorists are reminded that failure to comply with traffic signs can result in the imposition of a $100 fine.
