CEO of 2015 CPL T20 says it’s going to be a ‘real exciting time’ for St. Kitts and Nevis

He was speaking just a few hours ahead of the first game to be played at Warner Park today between the Jamaica Tallawahs and the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, the 9th game of the 2015 CPLT20 since it kicked off on June 20 in Barbados.

O’ Donohue, who is Irish, said the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has been tremendously supportive of the CPLT20 and that it was great to be back in St. Kitts after the finals at Warner Park last year.

St. Kitts and Nevis now has its own CPLT20 team, the Patriots, which is expected to receive unanimous support from Kittitian and Nevisian fans. St. Kitts and Nevis is scheduled to hosts 10 games of the series, the most games played in any of the six participating countries.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots is a 15-member squad that consists of Marlon Samuels, captain, Shane Dowrich, Devon Thomas, Tonito Willett, Jacques Taylor, Tabraiz Shamsi, Sohail Tanvir, Shahid Aflidi, Raymond Reifer, Orlando Peters, Evin Lewis, Martin Guptill, Sheldon Cotterrell, Carlos Braithwaite and Justin Athanaze. The coach is Eric Simmonds and the assistant coach is Andre Coley.

O’ Donohue said that he has high hopes for the 2015 CPLT20.

“We’ve just come from Barbados and St. Lucia. All the games were sold out there. They’re some of the biggest crowd we’ve had yet so I really believe the CPL is back bigger and better than ever,” Mr. O’Donohue said.

The CEO of the CPLT20 said that having an Indian Premier League (IPL) owner for the first time, KKR buy stake in CPL Franchise Trinidad and Tobago’s Red Steel is “hugely exciting and confirms how far the brand of CPL has come over the last three years so it’s a real exciting time”.

“The CPL is all about reigniting cricket in the Caribbean. We always felt that looking at the IPL and the Big Bash, twenty-twenty is an entertainment package and the West Indies is the home of twenty-twenty cricket. The people of the Caribbean love to party, love having a good time, they love getting dressed up, they love making as much noise, they love drinking rum and they bloody love cricket so all in all it’s a fantastic mix,” O’ Donohue said.
