Clean sweep for Antigua

By MyVue Staff Reporter

Basseterre, Tuesday, 1st August, 2023, (My Vue 60th annual Miss Jaycees Queen Pageant, held in Antigua on Monday night, (31st July), was quite a spectacle but also a night of dominance for the contestant representing the home country.

Ischikelle Corbin, Miss Antigua and Barbuda, won all judged appearances, distancing herself from the delegates.

The announcers seemed to have been stuck on the “repeat button” as they announced the winner for Best Interview, Best Evening Gown, Best Swimwear, Best Performing Talent, and Best Gown Design. They were all Miss Antigua. She took all.

It was reminiscent of the 2022 pageant when the delegate from St. Kitts & Nevis, Nekirah Nicholls, won all but one segment to take the crown back to Basseterre.

Her superior performance also carried over to the segments that were not related to the actual competition. Ischikelle Corbin also went home with the prize for Miss Congeniality.

Settling for the First Runner-up spot was Miss Dominica, Adicia Burton followed by the Second Runner-up, Miss St.Vincent & The Grenadines, Shadyn McLean.

There were nine contestants in this year’s competition, comprised of Antigua & Barbuda, The British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Haiti, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and the United States Virgin Islands.

The contest was staged as part of the Antigua carnival celebrations.

Many of the contestants will again be meeting in competition, but this time in Nevis, at the Miss Caribbean Culture Contest on Monday, 7th December.
