COP leader Prakash Ramadhar, speaking to reporters after a meeting of party executives, senior members and councillors on Sunday, told reporters “our position has been made clear from day one and really it is nothing other than the restoration of the trust that the people gave all of us in the People’s Partnership and the agreement which was made on the Fyzabad Declaration”.
The COP contends that the Declaration allows for the COP to have named the Mayor of the southern town, but prior to the March 24 internal elections of the United National Congress (UNC), Coudray announced she had switched allegiance and successfully contested the deputy leadership of the UNC, the biggest party in the five-member coalition here.
Ramadhar has called on the UNC to abide by the five-party “gentleman’s agreement” which gave the COP control of the San Fernando mayorship.
