The team of Adrian Williams, J’Anthon Silliday and Noha Herbert participated in the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games held in the Isle of Man from September 7th to 13th. The team gained respectable positions in each event, these including a semi-final spot in the Women’s 200 meters for Herbert but unfortunately she could not compete due to injury. Silliday earned an eighth place finish in the Men’s Javelin Throw Final whilst his teammate Williams earned a Bronze Medal in the same event.
Minister of Sport Mr. Glenn Phillip, President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Olympic Committee Alphonso Bridgewater and executives of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association headed by President Glen Jeffers shared the accomplishments with proud family and friends who were eager to embrace the young athletes.
Minister Phillip noted that the ceremony was as a result of a strong sense of dedication that was demonstrated by the Government, by the SKNAAA, by SKNOC and as well as the athletes themselves and their parents.
He evoked that on instances, he observed Silliday practicing, sometimes even without a coach present, and applauded him. He also credited Herbert for reaching as far as she did in the semi-finals and praised the support structure built by her parents.
Adrian Williams, who is from Nevis, was singled out. The Minister hailed, “Adrian Williams is the third best junior athlete at Javelin in the entire Commonwealth. I do think this is a major achievement,”
Vice President of the SKNAAA applauded the athletes and thanked the SKNOC as well as the Government for their continued support.
