There is no doubt now that 2010 has ushered in a new spirit of competitiveness and creative marketing, between the registered mas makers and organizers. Already, the country has been filled with official launch activities, with the latest being hosted last weekend.
Red Devils J’ouvert presentation was unveiled last Friday, at Ziggy’s on the Strip. The energetic group of mainly young participants partied from the Basseterre Fire Station to the Strip.
On arrival, brief remarks were delivered by Carnival Chairman, Clement O’Garro. He thanked the members of Red Devils for injecting a new kind of energy into J’ouvert for 2010/2011. O’Garro also encouraged them to continue to dialogue with the Committee to ensure their successful participation in J’ouvert, on 27th December.
Red Devils then presented their J’ouvert styles to the massive crowd that was in attendance. Music for the night was headlined by the Nu Vybes band. Sister Sensia hosted the party and remarks also came from Red Devils principals Losana and Antoine Laws.
This coming Friday, 5th October will see another series of launches. Phunn Makers, a Grand Parade entrant will launch their Mas Camp, located at the corner of Frigate Bay Road and the Kim Collins Highway, at 5pm.
Camp leader Christine Walwyn outlined that the event would take the form of a social afternoon. The National Carnival Committee is expected to demonstrate its support when Chairman O’Garro, delivers brief remarks.
Phunn Makers will be paying tribute to King Ellie Matt, “De Calypso Legend”. This troupe will feature sections named after some of Ellie Matt’s top hits. Mas players will also be given an opportunity to sign up for very affordable costume prices.
Also on Friday, but this time in downtown Basseterre , Fhunn Vybes Mas’ Band will be creating quite a buzz around town, with the double launch of their 2k10 mas’ presentation of ‘A Splash Of Purple’ for J’ouvert’ and ‘Purple Your Way’ for the Grand Carnival Parade on New Year’s Day.
The launch of Fhunn Vybes, signals the official start of celebrations for mas’ band members, supporters and party people and it is scheduled for Friday 5th November.
Bank Street will be transformed into a typical Carnival street party, where drinks’ specials will flow throughout the night while Nu Vybes band entertains the crowd.
Mudsunami J’ouvert troupe was launched on 2nd October and reigning champs Lime Xtreme Bacchanal will stage its launch on 27th November. Revellers are patiently waiting on information from the Inferno and Banker Mas Camp, the reigning Grand Parade Champs.
