The latest incident relates to the match that was scheduled between the Academy and Sandy Point, on Saturday 25th June, at the Sandy Point Cricket Facility. However, according one source, that match had to be cancelled, due to the non showing of the Academy team.
The source however, explained that the teams were only given notice on Thursday 23rd June, 2 days before. They indicated that given that most of the Academy players are high school students, and exams are currently ongoing, the late notice proved difficult for the team to mobilize, in time for the match.
The source however, also stated that the communication flow between the Cricket Association’s Management and the clubs has been poor and the league was allowed to start without a meeting to discuss all arrangements. The source said that hardly any association meetings have taken place since the last elections, with member clubs.
A few months ago, said the source, matches in the Premier Division were affected due to the non preparation of the facilities. The problem then, they said was related to the refusal of grounds men at the various facilities, to prepare the pitch and outer field. It is said that this action was connected to the non -payment of fees, due to them, for previous work undertaken.
However, this issue was recently resolved but now, due to other challenges, the latest match had to be cancelled.
However, in order to maintain fitness and keep themselves engaged in the sport, some teams, have taken the initiative to organize their own matches, where and when possible.
One such occasion was on Saturday 25th June, when the match between Sandy Point and the Academy, was cancelled.
The Sandy Point players were all ready and eager to play cricket, said the source, so they challenged Nagico New Town Cricket Club on Sunday 26th June, 2011, in a 30 overs game.
Nagico New Town Cricket Club won the toss and batted first, reaching 113 for 8 off 30 overs.
