Condor and Powell look forward to working with the new government to move SKN forward

One such candidate is the young lawyer and deputy leader of the People’s Action Movement, Jonel Powell, who explained to that he is disappointed that he did not win the seat in constituency #2, which was retained by the incumbent Labour Party representative Marcella Liburd.

“Obviously I am disappointed that I didn’t win. I feel happy, more happy than disappointed, because I feel like I made a difference. I made a change in Central Basseterre,” Powell said.

Further, the first-time candidate noted that for him it was not about winning a seat at the elections, but giving the people of St. Kitts and Nevis what they wanted and that was “a government of national unity”.

“I’m elated that we have formed the new government. Ultimately that is the most important point. It’s not about me winning a seat. It is about the people of this country getting a government that they want and a government that they deserve, and they got that, a government of national unity,” he said.

Meanwhile, the former deputy prime minister and deputy leader of the People’s Labour Party Sam Condo, who is also part of Team Unity, congratulated Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris for the victory and noted that it is now time to move the country forward.

He expressed gratitude to the new representative of constituency #4, Lindsay Grant, for winning that seat after three consecutive defeats.

Congratulations were also expressed for other first-time winners in the Federal elections.

Condor also commended Powell for wiping away a large deficit in constituency #2, which has predominantly sided with the Labour Party, noting that Powell is one of the candidates who would make an impact in elections to come.

Powell stated that for now he would be holding the government accountable for all the checks and balances that were promised to the people during the elections campaign.

“Going forward, I will do my best to ensure that this government of national unity delivers what it promised to the people. I think, perhaps, that the silver lining in all of this is that I can stand from outside and hold them accountable, hold them accountable for the promises and ensure that the checks balances are delivered to the country, Powell stated.
