MiyVue.com understands that during the afternoon (Business) session of the convention (15th May), St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) representative for Constituency No. 8, Cedric Liburd stood before the convention and suggested that the implication is that Condor and Harris were in some way associated with Astaphan and or his platform. (Astaphan was a member of the SKNLP-led government before he resigned from Cabinet and launched Operation Rescue which is a campaign to – as Astaphan has explained – rescue the Federation from the clutches of Prime Minister Dr. Douglas).
The Constituency No. 8 representative read a resolution asking that the two, in that forum, disassociate themselves from Astaphan and or his platform. This media house understands, however, that both parties (Harris and Condor) vehemently refused to do so and Condor has described the resolution as “disrespectful”.
This publication understands that the events leading from Liburd’s moving of the resolution to the response of Condor and Harris, evoked unruly behaviour by some, jeering of the speakers and verbal assaults being hurled at the delegates.
Speaking to MiyVue.com about the resolution and response to it, Condor noted, “We indicated that we were not going to do that. We consider Dwyer Astaphan to be a friend and a colleague…We felt and expressed that the resolution and out of place and disrespectful to us…We are not responsible for anything Astaphan has said.”
During the same convention, the SKNLP membership voted and had Astaphan expelled from the party. Condor spoke to this media house about this move and indicated that he was and is totally against it especially since the SKNLP is about “inclusion”.
“We (Condor and Harris) are totally against it and we are opposed to that because our party is about inclusion. We do not believe in expulsion of anybody. We believe that ideas will contend and we will have differences. That is what we are accustomed to, that is the nature of the party. That’s the nature of the Labour Party. He should not have been expelled.”
Condor expressed that his and Harris’ disapproval of the resolution and the expulsion of Astaphan, does not – by any means – suggest that they are in anyway disloyal to the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party.
