Crews Working to Normalize Water Supply After Fire

Minister responsible of utilities, the Honourable Ian “Patches” Liburd said the water supply has been reduced from the below average rainfall in St. Kitts and Nevis. However, a weekend fire in the area caused electrical damage to the pumping station further compounding the issue.

Work crews from the St. Kitts Electricity Corporation (SKELEC) have been busy addressing the electrical challenges which have resulted in low water pressure to consumers in Basseterre, Frigate Bay, Half Moon and South East Peninsula.

Minister Liburd apologized for any inconvenience but warned that water rationing during 10 pm to 5 am may be necessary to ensure a sufficient supply is available during peak hours. Other areas around the country that are being affected by the extended dry spell include Lodge, Cayon and Saddlers.

“I would like to encourage all consumers to conserve water by using such for essential purposes,” Minister Liburd said, in Parliament on Wednesday (July 28).

A release from the Water Services Department (WSD) also advised residents to fix all water leaks. Consumers are asked to contact the WSD at 465-8000 to report any issues.
