The past Whit Holiday weekend saw the hosting of a cricket festival, as part of the efforts to revive the sport in the area and to re-establish the grounds as a popular match venue.
The festival was organised by the Nagico New Town Cricket Club which hosted a 20 Twenty friendly contest amongst four teams.
Those competing were Newtown, Young Guns, Veterans United, and an All Star Team.
It took the effort of a group of concerned individuals and supporters of the sport of cricket to re-establish the venue. These included Keith Arthurton, Don Farrell, Nagico Insurance, and groundsman Jabal, who helped to prepare the pitch and overall facilities for the matches.
The opening game saw The Veteran United VS Young Guns Veteran United who won the toss and batted first making, 130 for 9 off 20 overs.
