Cuba and China to boost scientific and agricultural cooperation



Hong Lei, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, told the press that the two leaders also spoke of topics relating to the construction of socialism in both nations.

“We want to further boost cooperation,” Lei said.

Murillo is on a working visit to China until February 25. He is expected to meet with Li Changchun, permanent member of the Chinese Communist Party, and with Agriculture Minister Han Changfu.

Speaking to reporters in Beijing, the Cuban official reiterated Cuba’s willingness to develop new bilateral projects in the areas of science, agro-industrial investment, and trade.

Bilateral relations between Cuba and China have strengthened over recent years through the exchange of high-level visits and economic cooperation.

In June 2011, Chinese Vice President Xi Jingping was received in Havana by President Raul Castro and by former President Fidel Castro.

In December, Cuba’s vice president of the Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas headed the island’s delegation to the 24th session of the Cuba-China Intergovernmental Commission for Trade-Economic Relations in Beijing.
