The festivities will be held under the theme, “Mas, Music, Fun for 2K11! Truly a Cultural Expression!” And the official calendar of activities which will form part of the festival, has already been released and lists pre-Culturama activities as well as official Culturama activities.
The pre-Culturama activities include the official launch of the 2011 Culturama Miss Culture, Mr. Cool and Ms Culture Queen pageant contestants (17th June), Street Bash Nos. 1 and 2 (2nd and 9th July), Senor Kaiso Quarter Finals (9th July), the Ms Culture Swimwear, Ms Culture Queen Pageant, Mr and Ms Talented Youth and Mr Kool Contestants Fashion Show (10th July), Street Bash No. 3 and Sound Clash Elimination (16th July) and also the hosting of a RHYTHMZ Dance Theatre Production which will be held on 20th July.
Official Culturama festivities begin on 21st July, with three activities planned for that day. The Pan in de Street activity begins at 3:00 p.m., the CT Invasion activity is scheduled to begin an hour later and at 6:00 p.m., the Grand Launch of Culturama and the Junior Kaiso Contest will take place.
On 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 25th July, the respective TDC Senior Kaiso Semi Finals, the King of de Jungle Sound and Band Clash, Ms Culture Swimwear and Mr. Kool Contests and the Ms Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant shows will be held.
The Mr and Ms Talented Youth Pageant is slated for 28th July, the Department of Agriculture Fruit Festival is scheduled for 29th July beginning at 9:00 a.m. and later than day, 8:00 p.m. the TDC Senior Kaiso Finals is scheduled to take place.
Other activities include the Ms Culture Queen pageant (31st July), Emancipation J’Ouvert Jump Up (1st August), Culturama Drag Racing (30th July), Culturama Horse Races (1st August), Culturama 2011 Prize giving Ceremony (16th August).
Liburd told MiyVue.com that the Culturama committee and sub-committees are hard at work, making whatever preparations necessary to ensure that the Culturama 2011 experience is one that patrons will never forget. He also noted that he pleased with the progress being made as far as preparations are concerned.
“Preparations are ongoing. We are quite pleased with the preparations thus far…We are going to be having a press conference launch of the Festival on 1st July and then we will start to hype up the activities with our weekly street bashes or our block parties in the heart of Charlestown as a build-up this part of the festival on July 21st.”
