Culturama Festival is Well On Its Way

Miyvue.com, conducted a telephone interview with Mr. Liburd, who stated “The festival (Culturama) has been progressing smoothly, we have had some interruptions with the shows in regard to the rain and some lapses in terms of the starting times but once they were in progress they flowed and ended in reasonable time.”

Mr. Antonio Liburd, also made mention of the upcoming major events of this year’s Culturama Festival.

He indicated that on  Thursday 28th, July, five pairs of primary school children, one boy and one girl would be participating in the 2011 Mr. and Miss Talented Youths Pageant. Then, on Friday seven calypsonians would take part in the TDC Senior (Calypso) finals, each hoping to dethrone the reigning Culturama King, King Astro.

Mr. Liburd, further added that in recent years, the finals of the Senior Calypso Competition shared the date with the Cultural Food Fair which normally developed some problems, but due to the public’s request, which is to have the food fair be carried on longer, the Calypso show has been moved to its own night (Friday) while the Food Fair would maintain the Saturday Night.

The Cultural Food Fair is set to take place this coming Saturday (July 30th) at the Villa Grounds and will run from 7 am to 12 mid-night. An Emancipation concert is being planned as part of this year’s Food Fair, there, many local artistes would be giving a chance to perform.

The Miss Culture Queen pageant will see six beauties vying for the coveted title on Sunday (31st) evening day. On Monday (1st August) revelers from both St Kitts and Nevis would participate in the Emancipation J’ouvert Jump Up, electronic bands and disc jockeys would be on hand to provide the fun makers with the latest Culturama Music.

‘De Greatest Summer Lime’ would climax on August 2nd, with the hosting of the Cultural Street Parade and Last Lap, many troupes have been registered to take part in this event.

“ …adult troupes and most of the primary schools on Nevis will be participating in the Street Parade ” announced Mr. Liburd “They will make an appearance on Stage at the Cultural Complex then head back to the streets for Last Lap.”

The Culturama Festival Secretariat had cancelled some pre-activities, which would have been used to create the ‘hype’ for the festival, due to the 2011 Nevis Island Administration Elections.

However, Mr. Liburd explained that the recently concluded elections had no major impact on the Culturama celebrations itself. Culturama went into full gear when it was officially launch on July 21st.

The theme for this year’s Culturama is: ‘Mas, Music, Fun for 2k11! Truly a Cultural Expression!’
