According to a police communiqué which was issued on Monday, 18th April, 2011, members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s (RSCNPF) Criminal Investigations Department “formally arrested and charged two persons, one being a juvenile, on warrants in the first instance for House Breaking and Larceny which was committed on Wednesday, 13th April, 2011, at Conaree.”
The release names the adult as 24-year-old Valentine ‘Wally’ Eddy of Paradise Road, Conaree.
Circumstances leading to the arrest of the two are that at about 2:57 on that afternoon, the man reportedly secured his premises and left, and after returning less than an hour later, he discovered, “that his house was broken into and (having) entered to investigate further, he met two young men in his bedroom.”
The homeowner reportedly asked the young men what they were doing in his home, a question to which he got no answer.
“Instead one of the young men approached him and tried to remove something from his waist. As a result the homeowner drew his licensed firearm and shot one of the intruders in his right leg and restrained the other,” a police report informed.
Police were summoned to the scene to conduct investigations and while the unharmed individual was taken into police custody, the injured individual was transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital where he received medical treatment.
“A number of stolen items were recovered from the bag of one of the intruder and the yard.”
