Delly Ranks optimistic about retaining Groovy Crown

Speaking with MiyVue.com several hours before the event, Ranks disclosed that this year he does not see much competition coming up against him but he noted that the performances this time around are much higher.

“To be honest I don’t have any challengers… I don’t really see that it is high this year, because last year I had a very good song and this year I have returned with a good one as well.”

The Nevisian man of very few words revealed that the concept for the new tune was birthed by himself and his co-workers while another was written by a member of the Kore Band from his hometown.

The two songs are Rum Food and Wuk-up and Suga Whine, the latter was written by the drummer of the Kore Band.

Even with those words being echoed by Ranks, several soca pundits have noted that the defending champion can expect stiff competition from Jonas Bagnall  with his tune ‘Carnival Boss’.

Bagnall was the top performer in the semi-finals round of the competition, coming home with a whopping 197 points.

However, he was closely followed Mr. Mention, who copped a score 190 for his performance to the song ‘The explanation’.

Rounding out the top three spots in the Semi-final round of the competition was Lady Diva and her Home Sweet Home.

With the scores set at zero and every artiste starting on level ground, the best entertainer who utilizes the stage and performs to the top of their game is expected to come out victorious.

But the other competitors in the Groovy competition would not count themselves out such as Foxy with his ‘Addictive Whine’, Eazi- ‘Monster in Your Bed’ and, Fantastic Tunda ‘Move Out’.
