Despite thoughts of decriminalizing or legalizing, the marijuana arrests continue

In their most recent arrests, were three men, who were found with the illegal substance during the last seven days.

One man, Omar Francis of Willet’s, St. Paul Village, was arrested and charged for the offence of possession of Cannabis, while at a popular Basseterre club known as Potential Bar, on 21st February 2014.

Two days later, another arrest was made when Kizzan Galloway of Newton Ground, was taken in, not only for possession of Cannabis but also possession with intent to supply to another. This arrest came on 23rd February 2014.

Then on the same day, Sunday 23rd February, 2014, Keturah Browne of New Road was formally arrested and charged for the offences of possession of Cannabis and possession with intent to supply to another.

Since the announcement last week that Government was hoping to engage the public about its future position on the illegal drug, many in communities around St. Kitts have been expressing their opinions for and against any measure that would make it possible for people to openly use Cannabis without legal consequences.

Omar-Francis-next-to-ganja-plantGovernment has been somewhat careful to suggest however that their line of thinking is connected to possible health benefits, in cases where Cannabis or Ganja, or Marijuana, can be used for medicinal purposes. No position has been arrived at though as the process of consultation is still to be determined.
