“Our school has been placing in the top five in the past Primary Schools Cricket Tournaments, and I believe that our boys will now be energised to do better,” said Ms Williams when she recently received a sponsorship cheque from the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis to buy new uniforms for the boys of the school’s cricket team.
The school had approached the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis with a request for sponsorship to assist with the purchase of a set of new uniforms as the old one was in tatters after a prolonged period of use. The Bank responded positively and a cheque was presented by Ms Danienne Brin, the Executive Assistant to the General Manager, Mr Lenworth Harris.
On receiving the cheque, Ms Williams thanked the Development Bank for coming to their aid. She pointed out that Estridge Primary School has produced two national cricket players in Mr Garfield Charles and Mr Noval McCall.
She added that with the current crop of players who are being supported very well by their parents, the entire village of Mansion, and now the Development Bank, it was her hope that the school will produce more national players.
“Our sportsmen and women have done a lot of good in promoting the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis regionally and internationally and whenever an opportunity to boost them arises, the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis is a sure partner,” said Ms Brin as she presented the cheque to Ms Williams.
“The children at Estridge Primary have young local role models to look to as they aspire to be the best,” observed Ms Brin. “A young Nevisian on the West Indies team, Kieran Powell scored 108 at Lords against England this May, while a product of Development Bank’s cricketing sponsorship, Akheam Fox is currently making the country proud in England where he is playing cricket for Oxford Brookes University.”
On suggestion that the school could use the Development Bank’s logo on their new uniforms, Ms Brin commented: “If you choose that route to advertise the Development Bank, we will be grateful. We are into development and we welcome all to pay us a visit to find out what development products we offer. We are the bank that lends a helping hand.”
